The Jewish Press, America’s Largest Jewish Weekly Publication, Endorses Ron DeSantis for Governor

The Jewish Press, America’s Largest Jewish Weekly Publication, Endorses Ron DeSantis for Governor

Orlando, Fla. – The Jewish Press, America’s largest Jewish weekly publication, endorsed Ron DeSantis for Governor today, citing his support for the relocation of the U.S. Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem and his strong support of Israel. The endorsement also chastised Ron DeSantis’ opponent, stating his support for the BDS movement and the Iran Nuclear Deal, both of which threaten the security and sovereignty of Israel and highlight his consistent disregard for the wellbeing of the Israeli people and Florida’s Jewish community.

In their endorsement, the Jewish Press wrote:

“We urge our Florida readers to come out on November 6 and vote for Republican and Trump supporter Ron DeSantis for governor. Throughout his career, DeSantis has been a vocal supporter of Israel. He has supported the relocation of the U.S. Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, has strongly opposed the BDS movement and, if elected, would seek to promote trade between Florida and Israel.

He also plans to partner with Israel to clean up the pollution that plagues Florida’s coastal waters, taking advantage of Israel’s highly regarded expertise in that field. We are confident that as governor, he would use his ‘bully pulpit’ in support of Israel. His opponent, Democrat Andrew Gillum, supports BDS and strongly opposed the relocation of the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem. He was also a supporter of the Iran nuclear deal.”

Ron DeSantis said:

“It is a great honor to receive such a strong endorsement from the Jewish Press, the largest independent weekly Jewish publication in the United States,” said DeSantis. “I am a strong supporter of Israel and was proud to play a role in moving the U.S. Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem during my time in Congress. Florida is home to many Jewish-Americans and has a uniquely close relationship with Israel. As Governor, I will strengthen Florida’s partnership with Israel, and will be the most pro-Israel Governor in the country.”

Florida Sheriffs Demand Andrew Gillum Renounce the Hateful and Dangerous Ideology of Radical “Dream Defenders” Organization

Florida Sheriffs Demand Andrew Gillum Renounce the Hateful and Dangerous Ideology of Radical “Dream Defenders” Organization

Orlando, Fla. – More than half of the state’s elected Sheriffs signed a letter demanding Andrew Gillum withdraw his pledge to cut police funding and renounce the hateful and dangerous ideology of the radical Dream Defenders organization.

Andrew Gillum has walked in lock step with the Dream Defenders since the primary. The Dream Defenders have aided him with his campaign and engaged in get out the vote efforts throughout. He has publicly stated that he is proud of the group’s work and has refused to disavow this hate group.

Ron DeSantis has earned the endorsement of every major police union in the state because, as a former prosecutor, he is committed to supporting the brave men and women in law enforcement. This is in stark contrast to Andrew Gillum, who has openly aligned himself with a group that is vile in their rhetoric towards police.

In a rare move, the International Union of Police Associations broke with tradition to endorse Ron DeSantis because of Gillum’s extreme positions. In a public letter to Ron DeSantis, the group said that although they “very seldom make political endorsements in state elections,” they “felt that they could not remain neutral,” citing Gillum’s alignment with the Dream Defenders and their hateful, anti-law enforcement rhetoric. This is the third major police group to demand Gillum denounce his ties to the Dream Defenders.

Ron DeSantis has gained the endorsement of every major law enforcement association in the state, including:

  • The Broward Sheriff’s Office Deputies Association. Their President, Jeff Bell, has repeatedly called out Andrew Gillum for signing the Dream Defenders pledge.
  • The Police Benevolent Association, who recorded robocalls opposing Andrew Gillum for his decision to cut police funding.
  • Over 50 Sheriffs, the majority of whom have called on Gillum to denounce the Dream Defenders pledge.
  • The Florida Association of State Troopers
  • The Florida Police Chiefs Association

This letter was released shortly before the Republican Governor’s Association released a new television ad highlighting the concerns of law enforcement officials over Gillum’s consistent support of the radical anti-police group.

“I strongly agree with Florida Sheriffs who are calling on my opponent to once and for all disavow the Dream Defenders pledge that he signed,” said Ron DeSantis, Republican nominee for Governor of Florida. “My opponent has consistently skirted the issue and refused to disavow the dangerous, anti-police rhetoric that this group advocates. He has shown the brave men and women of our law enforcement that he will not have their back.”

The letter reads:

We, the undersigned members of Florida’s law enforcement community, ask that you immediately and unequivocally withdraw your pledge to the organization, Dream Defenders. After learning of this organization’s disturbing and anti-law enforcement position and statements, we believe that any candidate wishing to lead our state should in no way be aligned with this radical group.

The pledge you signed not only calls for you to defund police and prisons, but the papers that accompany this pledge wrongly claim, “Police were never meant to protect and serve me and you…Police and prisons have no place in ‘justice’…Police and prisons aren’t just racist but they work to enforce the separations of rich and poor.”

We believe you will agree that anyone seeking to be Florida’s next Governor should support the men and women who put on a badge daily and risk their lives to protect their communities.

We ask that you respond to this request with urgency and agree with us that the men and women of law enforcement in our state deserve respect and support.

Thank You,

In Rare Move, International Union of Police Associations Endorses Ron DeSantis for Governor

In Rare Move, International Union of Police Associations Endorses Ron DeSantis for Governor

Orlando, Fla. – The Ron DeSantis for Governor Campaign today announced the endorsement of the International Union of Police Associations. The endorsement builds on the significant support DeSantis has garnered from the law enforcement community, including endorsements from the Police Benevolent Association, the Broward Sheriff’s Office Deputies Association, the Florida Police Chiefs Association and over 50 sheriffs from across the state. The International Union of Police Officers does not usually endorse candidates for state office, but because of Andrew Gillum’s extreme anti-police positions, they decided they could not remain neutral.

“Many politicians and candidates like to don the mantel of public safety, but few are willing to stand by the men and women who proudly wear the badge,” said Sam A. Cabral, International President of the International Union of Police Associations. “Mr. Desantis was a Navy Prosecutor and a Congressman. In both roles, he has always been a strong advocate for the public’s safety and for the men and women who provide for it. We are profoundly proud to stand with him. We look forward to seeing him successful in this campaign and to bring his proven leadership, good judgement and ethical values to the Governor’s Office.”

“I’m proud to receive the endorsement of the International Union of Police Officers,” said DeSantis. “Floridians deserve a Governor who will stand up for our heroes who put their lives on the line every day to keep us safe. Throughout my career, whether in the military, as a prosecutor or in Congress, I have always supported the brave men and women of our law enforcement community and as Governor, I will continue to do so.”

The International Union of Police Officers does not usually endorse candidates for state office. In their endorsement of Ron DeSantis, they state that “because of the extreme positions embraced by Mayor Gillum; we felt we could not remain neutral. Mayor Gillum has proudly aligned himself with the Dream Defenders and has even signed their pledge. He has promised to ‘divest from prisons, detention centers and police’, which we view as a personal guarantee to make Florida and those blessed to live here, less safe.”

Sheriffs Call on Andrew Gillum to Disavow Dream Defenders

Sheriffs Call on Andrew Gillum to Disavow Dream Defenders

Orlando, Fla. – More than half of the state’s elected Sheriffs today announced they have signed a letter calling on Andrew Gillum to withdraw his pledge to the radical, anti-police Dream Defenders organization.

This comes after the Dream Defenders confirmed Andrew Gillum signed their pledge that calls for defunding the police and prisons.

“I am proud of the more than 35 Sheriffs who are calling on my opponent, Andrew Gillum, to once and for all disavow the Dream Defenders pledge that he signed,” said Ron DeSantis, Republican nominee for Governor of Florida. “In last night’s debate, Andrew Gillum once again skirted the issue. The pledge he signed says he supports the Freedom Papers, the very manifesto that attacks our state’s police officers.”

Setting the Record Straight: Andrew Gillum is Trying to Distract from the Truth. He Accepted Gifts, and He Lied.

Setting the Record Straight: Andrew Gillum is Trying to Distract from the Truth. He Accepted Gifts, and He Lied.

In 2016, Andrew Gillum went on numerous trips with lobbyists and other individuals with business before Tallahassee City Hall – including destinations such as New York, Costa Rica, and Qatar. Records from those trips released this week show irrefutable evidence that Andrew Gillum gladly accepted gifts in exchange for his support and loyalty as an elected official.

Despite Andrew Gillum’s multiple public denials before these documents’ release, in New York, he accepted gifts in the form of a luxury hotel room, Broadway tickets to see “Hamilton” that usually cost a thousand dollars each – and, glamorous “booze cruise” around the Hudson River to see the Statue of Liberty and he knew that they were paid for by real estate developers and lobbyists. Gillum’s own texts prove this.

These records also expose Andrew Gillum’s lies about his trip to Costa Rica. Gillum, his wife, and other lobbyists and guests stayed in a luxury villa paid for by those lobbyists, who received multi-million-dollar city contracts with Gillum’s support. He lied about paying cash for the room. He lied about how just how outrageously lavish this trip really was. The truth is, he stayed there for four nights—for free—hanging around and partying with people who had official business before Andrew Gillum’s city government.

Andrew Gillum boldly lied to Florida voters. He told us that he has never accepted anything for free; however, what we have here is a classic case of a corrupt career politician who knowingly accepted gifts in exchange for his support. What’s more, in a crystal-clear case of corruption, those lobbyists and developers benefited from Gillum’s official mayoral vote, and cashed in on millions of dollars of the taxpayers’ money.

Andrew Gillum has gone on the record—and lied—at least five separate times, most memorably to Jake Tapper and the American public on CNN. His willingness to lie to Floridians about taking freebies from lobbyists disqualifies him from leading Florida.

FBI Paid For New York Excursions, Including Hotel, Boat Trip, and “Hamilton” Tickets. “Undercover FBI agents paid for Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum’s hotel room and his ticket to the Broadway musical Hamilton during a 2016 trip to New York City, according to a bombshell trove of records that raises new questions two weeks before the Nov. 6 election for Florida governor.” (Lawrence Mower, “Records show FBI agents gave Andrew Gillum tickets to ‘Hamilton’ in 2016,” Tampa Bay Times, 10/24/2018).

Records Dispute Claim That Gillum Paid for Costa Rica Trip. “During the gubernatorial debate, DeSantis also pressed Gillum on whether he paid for the ‘villa in Costa Rica,’ a reference to his accommodations on that trip, which did not include Miller. Gillum has said he and his wife paid cash for the May 2016 Costa Rica accommodations, a contention refuted in the newly released emails.” (Matt Dixon and Arek Sarkissian, “Undercover FBI agent got Gillum ‘Hamilton’ tickets, texts show,” POLITICO, 10/23/2018).

Andrew Gillum Accepted Gifts from Undercover FBI Agents Posing As Developers with Business Before City Hall. “But records made public on Tuesday suggest that Mr. Gillum knowingly accepted a ticket to the Broadway show “Hamilton” from men he believed to be businessmen looking to develop property in Tallahassee — but who were actually undercover F.B.I. agents. The records also suggest that a lobbyist friend provided Mr. Gillum and his brother with a hotel room in New York — and possibly paid for much of a vacation the mayor shared in Costa Rica. Mr. Gillum never reported any of the perks as gifts, as required by law for elected officials in Florida.” (Patricia Mazzei, “ Text Messages Raise New Questions Over Andrew Gillum’s Lobbyist Connections,” New York Times, 10/23/2018).

Ron DeSantis Stands Firm with the Constitution. Andrew Gillum Does Not.

Ron DeSantis Stands Firm with the Constitution. Andrew Gillum Does Not.

Ron DeSantis is a U.S. veteran that firmly believes in protecting the Second Amendment right of all Americans and has received an ‘A’ rating from the NRA. In contrast, Mayor Andrew Gillum believes in radically rolling back the rights of Americans to bear arms and protect themselves, receiving an ‘F’ rating from the NRA.

Andrew Gillum opposes Floridians right to defend themselves, saying the Stand Your Ground law has ‘no place in civilized society.” Ron DeSantis supports the constitutional rights of Floridians to defend themselves, their homes and their families.

Recent gun legislation signed into law in Florida raised the minimum age to purchase a firearm from 18 to 21, implemented three-day waiting times on purchases, and created a mechanism that allows law enforcement to seize firearms from law abiding citizens. As Governor, Ron DeSantis would have vetoed this legislation because he does not believe law abiding gun owners and citizens should be punished for the criminal acts of the few.

Andrew Gillum believes this legislation didn’t go far enough. Gillum has advocated for a ban on all assault weapons, has fought the NRA in court after state law nullified city ordinances regulating firearm usage, and running mate, Chris King, believes Florida should have an ammunition or bullet tax.

The next Governor of Florida will immediately be faced with the task of nominating three justices to the Florida Supreme Court. Ron DeSantis will nominate judges that believe in and uphold the Constitution and the Second Amendment. Andrew Gillum will nominate activist judges to the Supreme Court who share his radical vision rolling back the rights of all Floridians to bear arms defend themselves and their families.

Chris King Calls for Bullet Tax. “Chris King wants to use taxes on weapons and bullets to pay for gun violence.” (Gray Rohrer, “Chris King calls for bullet tax to pay for gun violence prevention,” Orlando Sentinel, 6/1/2018)

Andrew Gillum Claims Stand Your Ground Laws have “No Place in Civilized Society.” “Stand Your Ground laws have “no place in civilized society.”(Sarah Jarvis, “Florida’s Democratic gubernatorial candidates spar, defend records during second debate,” Naples Daily News, 6/10/2018)

Gillum Wants to Ban Assault Weapons. “Anyone who wants to fire a weapon that can fire 60 bullets in 60 seconds should join the military.” (Anthony Man, “Andrew Gillum advocates for gun restrictions, avoids questions about Sheriff Scott Israel,” Sun Sentinel, 9/21/2018)

DeSantis Receives ‘A’ Rating from NRA, Gillum ‘F.’ “Rep. Ron DeSantis’ grade of A on second-amendment issues.” (Bill Cotterell, “NRA releases candidate grades; Graham, Gillum both score F’s,” Tallahassee Democrat, 7/17/2018)

DeSantis Would Veto New Gun Legislation. “I would have vetoed it.” (Anthony Man, “Trump-endorsed Ron DeSantis says he’d have vetoed gun law, removed Sheriff Israel,” Sun Sentinel, 4/10/2018)

Andrew Gillum Has a Record of Raising Taxes. Florida Needs a Governor Who Will Put Taxpayers First.

Andrew Gillum Has a Record of Raising Taxes. Florida Needs a Governor Who Will Put
Taxpayers First.

Andrew Gillum has a record of taking money from Floridians to pay for ever-growing government spending programs. In Tallahassee, he voted time and time again for increasing taxes and against lowering taxes—even one time stating before a vote that it was “reckoning time.” He opposes Amendment 1, which would cut property taxes for Floridians by increasing the homestead tax exemption.

Ron DeSantis has a proven record of fighting to keep government accountable and within a budget. Ron has pledged to veto any tax increases and support policies that put more money back into Floridians’ pockets. Ron knows that Floridians already pay enough in taxes; and, as Governor, he will put taxpayers first and keep government from spiraling out of control.

The choice is clear: Ron DeSantis is the only candidate for Governor who won’t raise taxes in Florida.

Ron DeSantis Will Not Raise Taxes on Floridians.“Floridians pay enough in taxes and with Ron DeSantis as Governor, you will not pay more. Government will learn to live within its means and this begins with a commitment not to raise taxes. Tax increases stifle job growth and hinder Floridians’ opportunities to succeed. Ron DeSantis will ensure that our government responds to the many needs of the state without a bloated bureaucracy that requires more and more of taxpayers’ hard-earned money.”  (“Economy,” Ron DeSantis for Governor).

Andrew Gillum Votes to Increase Taxes for Tallahasseeans.“After three months of grueling and sometimes acrimonious deliberation, city commissioners approved a $706-million budget and a 13-percent property tax increase Thursday evening. In 4-to-1 votes, commissioners put an end to one of the most divisive budget seasons in years. Mayor Andrew Gillum said commissioners have deferred the city’s need for more revenue for several years. ‘We’ve given (staff members) instruction, ‘Not now, we cannot do it, the public is still suffering, we cannot tolerate an increase,’’ he said. ‘Now, it’s reckoning time.’ The city may need to consider changing the services it provides, Gillum added. The new property-tax rate will generate an extra $6.3 million in revenue next year…” (Sean Rossman, “City approves 13-percent property-tax hike,” Tallahassee Democrat, 9/24/2015 updated 9/25/2015).

Andrew Gillum Votes Against Property Tax Decrease for Tallahassee Residents.“The Tallahassee City Commission cut the city’s property tax rate by 2.3 percent and opted to eliminate the Business License Tax at its final budget workshop on Wednesday. The commission voted 3-2 to cut the property tax rate, which will spare taxpayers $1 million. For a house that costs the median home value of $154,600, including a $50,000 homestead exemption, the average annual savings would be $13.75. Commissioner Nancy Miller and Mayor Andrew Gillum both said they were committed to last year’s decision to raise property taxes. Miller said the cut would impact spending on maintenance sought by residents. Gillum said he didn’t want the commission to find out in a few years it made a mistake and be forced to ask for an increase in property taxes.” (Sean Rossman, “City decreases property tax rate,” Tallahassee Democrat, 7/13/2016 updated 7/14/2016).

Andrew Gillum Opposes Amendment 1.“…a review of property and tax records shows that Gillum is paying extra taxes when he doesn’t need to. The Tallahassee mayor has failed to claim a homestead exemption on a nearly 3,200-square-foot home he owns with his wife in a suburban neighborhood located in the northeast part of the state capital. When asked about it this week, Gillum was unaware he had not claimed an exemption for the house he bought for more than $400,000 in late 2014. ‘Is that right?’ Gillum said. ‘I need to find out if that’s the case. I should be taking advantage of it.’… Gillum, who in his role as mayor votes annually on property tax rates for Tallahassee residents, has already come out in opposition to the amendment.” (“Andrew Gillum pays extra taxes on his Tallahassee home, records show,” Associated Pressvia Tampa Bay Times, 9/21/2018).
